Children and Youth
Children’s Program
At Silver Spire, we consider the involvement of children and youth to be of central importance. We offer Sunday School for children and youth groups weekly. Most classes are based on the Whole People of God curriculum. On Sundays, children start off sitting in church with their families or friends. During the service they are invited to the front for children’s time, then leave for Sunday School with their teachers. Nursery facilities are available.
Music Program
Our church offers a vibrant children’s choir that enhances our worship experiences.
High School Students
High school students play an important role at Silver Spire. They gather each Sunday and participate in some services as ushers, readers, communion servers or soloists. Some write for our newsletter. During the summer, students help with our outdoor café on Sunday mornings and throughout the year they help at other functions.

Care for the Soul: Discovering the Hidden Wholeness
An 8 week series introducing a model of meeting in community, while discovering the way one’s personal soul seeks expression in the world. The series will be held on Thursday afternoons from 1 pm - 2:30 pm in the Hearth Room beginning on FE 23. Based on a Quaker model of “Circles of Trust”, participants will learn to use various sources for reflection or meditation, in order to access the “Inner Teacher”, or “Christ Centre”. Such sacred soul work brings healing and wholeness. All are welcome. There are no materials needed or any fee. Please register with Sue Empringham at 905-708-2116.
Outreach
A large part of Silver Spire’s outreach relates to the downtown homeless and other marginalized members of the community. Out of the Cold, a program that provides a hot meal and a place to sleep every night of the week from November through March, runs out of our church on Monday nights. Our morning prayer services (Monday through Friday, 9-10 am) have also brought together people from the church and from the downtown community. Silver Spire and its We Care Committee work to ease the burdens of poverty in our community, liaising with Community Care St. Catharines (the local food bank), providing emergency food aid, supporting the services offered by Start Me Up Niagara, and advocating on behalf of the economically marginalized. Various teams from our church also work at St. George’s Breakfast Club, which provides a hot breakfast at St. George’s Anglican Church every morning of the year.
Silver Spire supports a number of other locally based projects, including Bethlehem Housing and Support Services, the RAFT teen shelter, Gillian’s Place and AIDS Niagara. We also support locally based but internationally focused projects, such as Canada Foodgrains Bank and God’s Hope: The Sierra Leone Children’s Project.
