Social, Spiritual and Study Groups

New members are welcome in any of these groups. For more information contact the church office (905-682-8328):

Carpet Bowling. About 25 seniors meet in the church auditorium every Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon. New bowlers are always welcome.

Feminist Faith Concerns.. This group was formed at St. Paul Street United Church in 1988, and has been meeting monthly since then.

Men's Breakfast Group. This group meets for breakfast on the first Thursday of each month. If you enjoy a good breakfast, good company and good conversation, you are invited to join them at Fortis Restaurant on Queenston St. at 8 a.m. Ladies are also welcome, and they gather in a separate area in the restaurant.

Page Turners. Do you like to read, like to listen, and like to discuss ideas from your reading? Page Turners is an opportunity to do just that -- turn the authors' ideas upside down and inside out to hear their messages that can help us live in Christ's way today.

Prayer Tree Group. The Silver Spire Prayer Tree Group meets on the third Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. in the church library. Sometimes they meet for lunch beforehand. At their meetings they offer prayers for specific requests from congregation members, as well as general prayers for the church, community, government and world issues. They keep a prayer list that is revised monthly, so that members can pray daily at home for people and situations on the list. This list is kept in complete confidence by members of the group, and people's names are not added to it without their approval. New members are always welcome, even people who can't attend the meetings but would like to pray at home. For more information, contact Sue Empringham at 905-934-4510.

Tie Quilters. This group meets on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at the church. In 2008 they donated 75 quilts to Community Care, Bethlehem Place, the YWCA and Gillian's Place. New quilters are always welcome.

United Church Women This very active group of women, composed of three separate units, raises funds in different ways to support the church and other charities. The U.C.W. oversees the church kitchens, organizes the Silver Bells bazaar and various other events, caters funerals and other gatherings at the church, and participates in events outside the church, such as the World Day of Prayer. Guest speakers at U.C.W. meetings often illustrate aspects of mission work.
